Summer’s long, lazy, hot days are perfect for pool-side parties, sun-filled soirees and other fun activities, but they can wreak havoc on keeping flowers. Keeping your bouquets and cut flower arrangements out of the heat helps them last longer, of course. But what do you do when you have a summer party or an event that is usually packed with flowers? You simply go with flowers that can withstand the heat and hold up. Gardenias, hydrangea, sweetpeas are some flowers that may look frilly and delicate but can withstand the Dallas summer. It’s also fun to play with plantings, orchids, Spanish moss or adding a few fruit trees to your backyard space is a great way to have it feel and look lush, even when getting pounded by the sun. We love working with clients on their summer events, graduation parties are a ton of fun because it typically lets us be a bit more playful and whimsical with our design. For Graduations we love the concept of color blocking everything, maybe a nod to where the Grad is going, or perhaps where they’ve come from – and in the best of both world cases, rooms or areas that represent it all – solid orange floral and linen for the next step at UT Austin was set in the center of the party the perimeter was all green and white representing their soon to be High School Alma Mater. When selecting the timing for events like this, it’s also thoughtful to do so in the early evening or later afternoon, unless it’s a pool party, where you can expect every guest (and maybe their guests) to park themselves in the pool and never move. You’ll just have a better turn out if it’s cooled off a bit. Oh, andtip from our sister company todd events, serve something cold on arrival – a cocktail, a Popsicle whatever it is, get something to your guests that feels cool and they won’t have time to think about how warm it is!
We’re looking forward to creating some incredible intimate events with you & hope that the summer events in hot heat is less daunting to face.
